Frequently Asked Questions

  • A willing partner is a great place to start! After that, all you need is a marriage license, two witnesses, and a wedding officiant (that’s where I come in).

  • To get a marriage license, you will need to bring 2 pieces of government-issued ID (birth certificate, valid passport, valid driver’s license, Canadian Citizenship Card, Nexus card, etc.) to either Toronto City Hall or a Service Ontario location. One piece of ID must include your photo. The fee for a marriage license at Toronto City Hall is $160 (HST does not apply). Elsewhere, fees vary depending on municipality. If you plan to get your license from Toronto City Hall, you must first make an appointment.

  • A marriage license is valid for 90 days from the date it was issued.

  • All the time! If you are planning a last-minute wedding and you would like me to officiate it for you, please email me with the type of ceremony, date, time, and location, and I’ll do my best to accommodate your request.

  • It really depends on the type of ceremony, the number of elements, and how many people are participating in it. A Legal Ceremony (paperwork only) takes about 10 minutes. An Elopement or Simple Ceremony may take 10-15 minutes. A Custom Ceremony is generally 20-30 minutes in length.

  • My custom package includes an initial 30-minute Zoom call, unlimited email, and a 30-minute ceremony walk-through (a great alternative to a rehearsal) via Zoom. After the initial consult, I provide my couples with a questionnaire that helps me get to know them, tell their story, and personalize their wedding. Following the questionnaire, I have the couple design their ceremony using my wedding ceremony template.

  • Wedding rehearsals are not included in any of my ceremony packages but can be added at a rate of $150/hour. plus $0.61 per kilometre if applicable.

  • Cancellations must be communicated in writing. If written notice of cancellation is provided by the client thirty (30) days before the event, the client will be partially refunded their deposit less a $150 consultation and administration fee.

A deposit can be applied to another date and time as long as the client requests the change in writing at least thirty (30) days prior to the scheduled event date and I am available. If the client cancels the event less than thirty (30) days prior to the event date, I will keep the deposit.

In the unlikely event that I am unable to perform the event for unforeseen circumstances (i.e. hospitalization, automobile accident, and/or transportation breakdown, etc.), I will be permitted to make reasonable attempts to provide a replacement officiant at no additional cost to the client (this has only happened once in 19 years). In the event that I must cancel, the client will be refunded the deposit paid for my services.
